Do You recite the Pledge of Allegiance Properly

"I pledge allegiance to the Flag
of the United States of America,
and to the Republic for which it stands:
one Nation under God, indivisible,
with Liberty and Justice for all."

When reciting the pledge at a club meeting, always rise, push in your chair and stand behind it.  Then place your right hand over your heart and begin. When you are finished take your seat.

Sounds simple.  However, for some unknown reason many Americans believe  there is a comma between "one nation" and "under God".  Not so!

The pledge has undergone a metamorphous over its life.  Here are some interesting facts.  The original pledge was as follows:

October 11, 1892

"I pledge allegiance to my Flag,
and to the Republic for which it stands:
one Nation indivisible,
with Liberty and Justice for all."

On June 14, 1923 the pledge was revised to read:

"I pledge allegiance to the
Flag of the United States,
and to the Republic for which it stands:
one Nation indivisible,
with Liberty and Justice for all."

On June 14, 1924 the pledge was revised again to read:

"I pledge allegiance to the Flag
or the United States of America,
and to the Republic for which it stands:
one Nation indivisible,
with Liberty and Justice for all."

Finally on June 14, 1954 the pledge was revised to read:

"I pledge allegiance to the Flag
of the United States of America,
and to the Republic for which it stands:
on Nation under God, indivisible,
with Liberty and Justice for all."
